Happy 5 Months

OK, so it's late...Summer started feeling a little fussy today...but she's down now, so I was able to get this quick video of her uploaded to the PC and ready for viewing...for PROOF!!

Summer started sitting up on her own. She can even lean forward on her own. She still falls over, but she's staying up for a good amount of time. And more cool, which is what the video is, is that she can hold her own cup! Check it out!

Summer Taking a Swig

She only drank just under an ounce on her own, after eating her food...and then I fed her until she was done, with her bottle, but she can do it! YAY!! Go Summer! I gave her the Sippy Cup again today, but she wasn't quite as into it...as I said, she's feeling a little under the weather. It's kind of sad, being her 5 month birthday today and all! Happy (5 month) Birthday Summer!!

Anyway, just wanted a quick update with the movie and show how much she's advancing. I've said it before and I'll say it again...WOW, she amazes us EVERY DAY!!!

Sleep well Summer, feel better soon!!!

Baby Sitting

Yay, we dressed Summer up all warm and snug and got her ready for her baby sitting night with Erika.

Summer Ready to be Baby-Sat

Erika is a great baby sitter, Summer loves hanging out with her

Jess and I went to our friends Tom and Kelly's wedding. It was a traditional Chinese wedding which was amazing. Not much food for the either of us, everything was meat, so Jess ordered some fried tofu off the menu and there was more seafood and such than I'd normally eat. But, it was all good, and a great experience.

After the wedding, which ended promptly at 10PM, with no dancing :-( we tried to find a bar with our buds Sean, Magda and Tim. Well, the place we ended up at was an asian karaoke bar. Let's just say it was quite the experience. There's that word again. These two events really made the movie Lost in Translation mean a lot more to me.

OK, enough about us, this blog is about Summer. :-) We got home and she was sleeping soundly and we ended up having a good weekend. That morning we took Summer to the Farmer's Market and walked her around in her stroller. Sunday we took her shopping to buy her a few more XMas gifts and some needed things for the house and gifts for others. Summer loves to shop! OK, I gotta be off to work. Summer's about to wake up and I need to go go go...

Child's Play

OK, so I read this online web-comic called Penny Arcade. They started a charity called Child's Play, which is now in its third year. The first year, the charity only helped one hospital in Seattle, which is where they are located. Last year they helped three hospitals on the west coast. In those two years they've gathered donations totaling nearly 1 million dollars. This year they have hospitals all over the world.

We have been very lucky in that Summer is a very healthy baby. This charity focuses on getting toys into the hands of children in hospitals. Since I love to play video games this charity helps me share that fun with kids which can use something to focus on besides just sitting in the hospital.

The charity was started to show the good side of gamer's. The media typically seems to say video games are always just violent and bad...and gamer's are a bane on society, or something. This charity shows that the popular media's view is just plain wrong! Anyway, their website has all the details, but basically they set up wish-lists at Amazon.com and make it super easy to donate some toys and games to these children. Please visit the site for more info and just to check it out:

There is obviously no obligation, we just wanted to share what we feel is a great way to support children's hospitals during the holiday season. Thank you, and that is the end of my public service announcement. :-)

Picture Happy...

OK, so, I was driving Summer home from day-care and noticed that the fences were down at the Virginia Avenue Park! Woohoo!!! The signs said the fences were coming down Saturday, for the farmer's market...well they opened early. YAY!!!

So, I excitedly called Jess and asked if we could please, please, please take Summer to the park, because, ya know, she Really wanted to go! ;-)

So, Jess said yes, so I wrapped Summer up in some warm clothes and a nice hat.

Getting Ready

When Mommy got home I was waiting for her in the parking garage. We loaded Summer in the stroller (for the first time EVER facing forward!!!).

Ready to Roll!

So, first thing we did was put her in the infant swing. They are made nicely so she can hold herself up in it, all by herself (we have to stay nearby just in case, but she's pretty snug).

Nighttime Swinger

As you can see, she LOVED it!!

Nothing but Smiles!

She was laughing and having a blast! We want to go back on Saturday, but it will be CROWDED, but we'll try anyway, and bring the video camera. Get her laughing on tape! So, the stroller makes a great impromptu camera stand, and we were able to set the timer and get this pic.

Happy Family in the Park

So, before Summer could get too cold, I walked her around some of the other play things and sat with her on the slide.

Sliders

Well, she had a great time and when we started pushing her home she fell sound asleep. She'll now wake up around 11, I'm sure, but that's OK, we all had a great time!

Go Clippers!!

I only say that because they won! Haha!!!

Summer did OK at the game. She cried some at first. She was TIRED...so I held her, took her away from the seats, changed her, fed her, etc...Here she is hanging out with us.

At the Game
A little closer view shows her eyes quite nicely. Not only are they open....she's AWAKE late...they show how blue they still are.

Close up, On Daddy

At Half-Time Gus and I walked the girls around the arena. Showing them the pictures on the wall and just basically keeping them entertained. When we got back, I handed Summer off to Jess. I think she was ready to finally get to sleep...and she passed out, quickly.

Finally passed out
Again, just another close-up. She slept amazingly well, although she did pop awake here and there with all of the cheering.

So Peaceful in a loud place

Anyway, as said before, it was a Clippers versus Tiberwolves game. I was cheering for MN, but they were tied at the end of regulation and we skeedattled outta there. MN ended up losing, but that's OK, we had a super time and were glad to see how well Summer handled it! Next up? Most likely a Hockey game!!! Or maybe the Lakers!!

Out and about

Summer had a busy day Saturday! We took her out shopping at Ralph's, which we've done before, but on the way in, I put her in the shopping cart! She grabbed on and had a great ride.

Gone Shopping
Next time we'll have to bring a big blanket or a boppy or something, as we don't want her falling back and hitting her head. But it sure was fun!

Later that night we went to a Clipper's game with our friends Gus and Chellei and their baby, Laila. They've been in a previous post. Gus took a picture of the family which we'll post later. But, basically it was Summer's first professional sporting event. They were playing the Minnesota Timberwolves, and I was rooting for the T-Wolves, but it was a tie game at the end of regulation. That allowed us to leave with less of a crowd walking to the car or driving home, so that was fortunate. But we missed the final score....100-99, LA Clippers won it! Missing the ending was unfortunate. Oh well, we'll be trying to bring her to a King's game soon, too!

Summer's been doing very well lately. Eating all sorts of food, sitting up with less and less support, "talking", grabbing, rolling around. The only thing that troubles us, is her sleeping habits. She's been back to sleeping for 3-4 hours at a time, instead of getting a good long night's sleep...which, of course, means we don't get any more than a few hours at a time ourselves.

I turned on the furnace, hoping to heat up our place, to make it a bit more comfortable. Hopefully, that can help a little. It seemed to work for a nap earlier today, when she slept for 2 hours, instead of 30-45 minutes, like she normally has done lately. Her eyes have reddish-not bags, but-areas, under her eyes, so we gave her some vitamin drops and kept her warm, and she slept some more, so we'll see if that does anything about that redness.

So, that's about it. Nothing else to report for the week. Will hopefully get some pics from the game! Til then, bye bye and good night!
